"Not having a PhD may help to have a bigger pool for recruitment. But one cannot say the pool will be a 'talented pool'. A PhD ensures that the candidate applying for the position of a faculty does possess a certain amount of research exposure and capabilities. One cannot strike a balance to sponsor mediocracy while appointing faculty members to teach students who are the future of the nation.
