The Role of Emotional Intelligence in Leadership Effectiveness | Authored by Dr. Poornima Gupta

Emotional intelligent leadership means being in a positive and high energy mood and ensuring that the subordinates also feel the same.

It may not always be possible as there is a lot of pressure at senior levels. This makes all the more reason for bosses to cultivate emotional intelligence. As leaders, it falls upon us to guide the people working with us in a way that makes them want to follow us with enthusiasm and not fear. Many of us sometimes feel that anger is the best way to get work done. Anger too is an emotion and a very destructive one which triggers a wave of negative emotions in the mind of the receiver. As bosses we feel but when we get angry things get done faster. It is emotional intelligence that can enable leaders to establish the legitimacy of their anger instead of letting it take the form of personal attacks towards their subordinates and calibrating it in a manner that is not offensive.
