Great Lakes Institute of Management is founded by Dr. Bala V Balachandran, Padma Shri awardee of the Indian government for his valuable services in higher education for the country, and a Distinguished Professor (Emeritus in Service) at the Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University, USA. Karma-Yoga, a Leadership Experiential Action Program (LEAP) is an integral part of the student life at Great Lakes. Karma Yoga provides transformational experiences in their own evolution as leaders – where they discover themselves while serving the deserving and needy, and realize that the true purpose and meaning of being a leader is to serve the followers! We have embraced the community we exist in and have partnered with the neighbouring 27 villages that form our immediate community. Over the past years, Great Lakers have been involved in organizing health camps, financial inclusion programs, agricultural training programs, activity-based learning programs, etc., in association with leading hospitals and several NGOs. Karma Yoga project runs throughout the year and has been quietly transforming the lives of the people around the institute's campus. Karma Yoga is all about creating an environment of constant interaction, influencing, motivating others towards the betterment of their lives.
To develop socially responsible behavior by involving the students in community engagement.
To impart transformational leadership skills and learn experientially to undertake sustainable development projects among partnering communities.
