22nd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Former Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Government of India

At the 12th Great Lakes - Union Bank Finance Conference, we were graced with the presence of 22nd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Dr. Duvvuri Subbarao.

Dr. Subbarao served under Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. He is a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. He was appointed the 22nd Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from 5 September 2008, with an extension in 2011 till 4 September 2013.

Mr. Subbarao Duvvuri, in a very insightful session about ''Policy Making dilemmas during the Economic Crisis'', shed light on the four dilemmas that are observed by Central Banks, including those of global financial crisis, monetary policy, communication, and exchange. Citing examples from his own life he went on to illustrate how he handled the situations when confronted with such challenges.

During his address, he highlighted that ''The RBI has made extraordinarily easy policy in the last two years since the Covid pandemic affected the country. It was very necessary and the RBI took the right stance and has been instrumental in keeping the economy going''.
