  1. What is the minimum work experience required in order to apply for the course?

    We prefer applicants with a minimum full time work experience of 2 years. However, special profiles with less than 2 years of experience are also considered. We evaluate such candidates on several other criteria. Internship or part time work experience is not considered and only full time work experience is considered.

  2. How many students do you have in a batch?

    The current batch of PGPM has 260 students. Next year (2010-11) the strength of the batch will be 300.

  3. I had applied for the PGPM programme in the past but did not get selected .Can I reapply?

    Yes. You can reapply provided your CAT/GMAT score is still valid.

  4. I have not completed my graduation yet. Can I still apply?

    No. You cannot. Only graduates can apply to the PGPM program.

    Admission Procedure

  5. When does the application process for PGPM 2011 start?

    The application process will start in the month of October. Please refer the following schedule for the application process.
    Issue of application online begins from: Oct 16th, 2009.
    Last date for submission: For GMAT/CAT 2008 - Jan 03, 2010 | FOR CAT 2009 – Feb 07, 2010.

  6. What are the factors considered for admission?

    Great Lakes give importance to the overall performance of an individual rather than excellence in a single field. We look at the candidate’s past academic records, work experience, recommendations and essays. In addition, performance in GMAT/CAT, Group Discussion and Personal Interview are considered while evaluating applicants.

  7. Can I apply online? Can the recommendation letter be sent online?

    Yes. You can apply online by making a payment through any credit card/by purchasing a application form from IMS centers, TIME centers, Career Launcher centers, Achievers Point Centers and Great Lakes Institute of Management office, Chennai.

    The recommendations have to be submitted online. In the application form once the details of the recommenders have been entered and the button "Ask for recommendation" has been clicked an e-mail with the login details will be sent to the recommender. The recommender can then login and complete the recommendation process. Once he/she clicks "Submit", an acknowledgement will be sent to the applicant for information

  8. Is it mandatory to submit recommendation letters?

    Yes. It is mandatory to submit the recommendation letters within the scheduled time. Great Lakes refer to these letters while selecting a candidate.

  9. Can students from other streams apply (apart from Engineering / Science / Commerce background?)

    Students from other streams can also apply for the course. The candidate should hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university.

    Yes. Once the interviews are done, you will be able to track the status of your application online.

    There is only one phase and it starts in October. The final results are declared in month of March.

    GREAT2010 is the admissions test conducted by Great Lakes to overcome the uncertainties caused due to the delay in announcing the results of CAT2009.

  15. What are the revised deadlines?

    The deadline for submitting the completed online application form including the completed recommendations is February 7th, 2010.

  16. What is the last date for reporting the scores?

    The last date for reporting all the scores except for applicants who have opted to report CAT 2009 scores is 17th February, 2010. CAT 2009 scores can be reported until 11:59 PM on 22nd February, 2010.

  17. What if CAT2009 scores are delayed beyond 22nd February, 2010?

    We will be constrained not to consider CAT2009 scores for the admissions process. Therefore we encourage applicants through CAT2009 to take up GREAT2010 so that they do not miss out on the opportunity to apply to PGPM 2010-2011.

  18. Will the application fee be refunded if CAT2009 scores are delayed beyond 17th February, 2010?

    Any refund is at the discretion of the Management .

    It will be conducted in Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

  20. Who all can apply for GREAT2010?

    Anyone who wishes to apply to the Great Lakes PGPM can take GREAT2010.
    Additionally we strongly recommend CAT2009 applicants to take up GREAT2010 to avoid the termination of their application in the event that CAT2009 results are delayed beyond 17th February, 2010.
    Students who have applied for the first round and have not got shortlisted can also take up GREAT2010 to improve their candidature.
    Students who have already got shortlisted for the GD/PI also can improve their score by taking up GREAT2010 and improve their scores as admission test score has a weight-age in the final selection process also.

  21. How to register for GREAT2010?

    For Applicants who have already started their online application.
    • The link for registering to GREAT2010 will be available in the Test Information page of their online application.
    For applicants registering on or after 23rd January, 2010
    • The GREAT2010 option will be bundled with the registration to the online application. Please ensure that you select GREAT2010 as the admissions test option in the registration page. If you make a payment of Rs 2000/- while registering itself, you don’t have to register for GREAT 2010 separately.
    For applicants who have already submitted the online application.
    • The link for registration to GREAT2010 will be displayed along with the GD/PI results which are likely to be announced on 28th January, 2010.

  22. What is the pattern of GREAT2010?

    The pattern is similar to CAT and it will have 3 sections namely Quantitative, Data Interpretation and Verbal. The duration of the test will be a maximum of 150 minutes. It will be an online exam.

    The GD/PI for all the applicants is likely to be held on 26th, 27th and 28th of February, 2010 at Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. In Hyderabad and Kolkata, GD/PI is likely to be held on 20th and 21st of February, 2010.

    Entrance Test

  32. Is an entrance test required? Can I apply on the basis of XAT score?

    Great Lakes does not conduct any entrance test but accepts CAT/GMAT scores. Great Lakes does not accept XAT/ MAT scores.

  33. I appeared for the GMAT/ CAT 3 years ago. Are the scores still valid or do I need to re-take the exam?

    GMAT scores older than 3 years (as on 4Th January 2010) will not be considered for admission. Candidates have to report their GMAT scores officially to the institute through GMAC in case an admission offer is made. The official score must reach Great Lakes before the candidate joins the program

    Candidates applying on the basis of their CAT score must note that only the scores for CAT-2008 and CAT-2009 will be accepted.

  34. Let me know your ETS code so that I can forward my GMAT score to you.

    Our GMAT-ETS code number is V49-FX-40. You have to report your GMAT score officially to the institute through GMAC, if you are applying with GMAT score.

  35. If I have taken more than one exam, i.e. CAT and GMAT, which score would you consider?

    We will accept only one score which is either the CAT or the GMAT score. Please use your judgment in selecting from the two scores.

    No. We do not have sectional cut offs.

  37. What is the minimum CAT/ GMAT score required in order to apply for the course?

    For the current batch, the median CAT score is 96.8 percentile, while median GMAT score is 690. However, we consider all factors -- including college performance, post-graduate degrees (if any) and relevant work experience. We look at the complete value addition that a candidate will bring to the class.

  38. When do the GD, interviews and final admissions take place?

    The exact dates will be announced on the web site and will be communicated to you after you submit the application. The GD and interviews are conducted normally in the month of February and the provisional call letters are issued normally in the month of March

    Last year the interviews were held in Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.

    Post Graduate Program in Management

  40. Why is the duration of your course for one academic year only?

    The one year format is very common in Europe and other parts of the world. One-year programs are more rigorous than two year programs. In terms of the number of classroom hours, there won't be a significant difference between a two year course and a one year course. Generally, there are no holidays between terms. Working executives would rather be away from work just for a year instead of 2 years. Also the one-year program enables students to start working a year earlier.

    Yes, Great Lakes has a tie-up with Indian Bank for educational loans. This helps Indian students obtain loans at an attractive interest rate. Great Lakes is also trying to tie up with PNB & HDFC for 2010-11

    Yes. Hostel facilities will be provided for all the students. In fact residence in the campus is compulsory

    Family accommodation is available for 12 families only, and will be allotted on first-come-first-served basis.

    Yes. All the admitted students need to have a laptop matching at least the minimum configuration stipulated by the college.

    After commencement of the program no fee will be refunded. The security deposit, however, will be refunded.

  51. Do you offer placement help to all your students?

    Great Lakes has an excellent placement record and placements have been 100% since inception. However, we do not guarantee a job at the end of the program.

    No. But, we will prefer professional recommendations

    No. In fact we prefer professional recommendations because they are more relevant in terms of judging your professional capabilities.

  61. Is there a facility available for ATM?

    There is an Indian Bank ATM within the campus. There are a few ATMs in Anupuram (2 kms) and Mahabalipuram (8 kms).

  62. Is medical care available?

    A doctor from Chettinad Hospitals visits four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday) between 4 PM and 5 PM. Besides which the college provides transportation facilities to Chettinad Hospitals in case of an emergency.

    There is a full-fledged general store inside the campus, where you can get all the essentials.

  66. How to reach the campus?

    From Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (Koyambedu) / Thiruvanmiyur / Guindy:

  67. 1.Board Route Number 118 which runs to Kalpakkam and get down at Kunnathur Bus Stop. The bus stop is 200 meters from the campus. Frequency: Every 30 minutes.

    2. Board any bus which runs to Pondicherry via ECR and get down at Mahabalipuram. Hire an autorickshaw to Kunnathur.

    From Chennai Central Railway Station:

    1. Board any Route Number 1 series, Get down at Thiruvanmiyur. From there follow the above directions.

    From Chennai Airport:

    1. Board any Route Number 70 series, Get down at Guindy. From there follow the above directions.

    P.S: Call Taxi's are available at any part of the city which charge approximately Rs 1000/- to the campus. The numbers of some of the Call Taxi's are as follows.

  68. Is Non-Vegetarian Food available in the campus?

    As Great Lakes follows a Gurukulam style, only vegetarian and healthy food conducive for Knowledge development is served in the campus. However non-vegetarian food is available in Mahabalipuram (8 kms) and Pudupattnam (6 kms).
