FAQs
Q:What is the advantage of having a domain specialization along with a traditional PGPM course?
A: While a graduate from a management course from a conventional business school has knowledge about traditional functional areas, he/she does not possess the domain knowledge required to be immediately effective in his/her job after graduation. Domain specialization provides the student with an in-depth knowledge so that he/she understands the larger context and environment within which the organization operates, the challenges that are typically encountered and a set of skills essential to tackle them. Such knowledge and skills are highly valued by employers.
Q: What is the need for specialization in the energy sector that the PGPM (Energy) offers?
A: The primary reason for this is the major shortage of trained managers in the sector who can support and lead its rapid growth. The need for such an institution was conceived by some of the thinkers and leaders in the industry who have first-hand experience of this shortage. Further, Renewable energy and sustainability are newly emerging areas that are rapidly gaining prominence and there is a tremendous need for qualified managers in these areas.
Q: Will an energy Management graduate be able to seek placement in sectors other than energy?
A: While Great Lakes IEMR offers specializations related to the energy sector, the functional electives in 2nd year will allow students to specialize in Marketing, Finance, Operations or Human Resources. Great Lakes IEMR’s placement strategy will be agnostic to industry sectors and students will be qualified to take up jobs in any sector. The hard and soft skills that students will learn at Great Lakes IEMR will be applicable in a wide range of industries. However, their specialization in the different areas of the Energy sector would give them a distinct edge in this fast growing sector.
