Great Lakes IEMR students win prestigious inter collegiate competition - Emerson Talent Quest 2011

Great Lakes IEMR, a pioneer academic & research institute for Energy sector, emerged as the clear winner of “Talent Quest”, a prestigious intercollegiate competition organized by Emerson Process Management India, a unit of Emerson; the US headquartered diversified global manufacturing company. Ranked 120 on the Fortune 500 list, Emerson launched an Inter College Competition named “Talent Quest- In pursuit of Excellence” to provide a platform for students to showcase their talent and engage in a meaningful study around some intriguing topics.
The competition was conducted among Universities/Institutions which had Energy focused programs and included:
• University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES)
• Great Lakes Institute of Energy Management and Research (Great Lakes IEMR)
• Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT BHU)
• Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (School of Petroleum Management)
The competition saw over 50 entries from students of these institutes, who presented research papers on one of the given topics, namely,
• Market Outlook for the Process Automation Industry and roadmap for next 5 years
• Nuclear Energy Potential: Do renewable sources of energy pose a real challenge to non-renewable ones
• Talent demographics of India in comparison with BRIC nations
• An Innovative new business model
The final round of the competition was held at Great Lakes IEMR’s campus in Gurgaon. The top 12 finalists from the participating institutes took part in this grey cell stimulating competition and presented their research papers to an esteemed jury, consisting of Mr. Piyush Mahajan, Director (Technical), Engineers India Limited, Dr R. K. Malhotra, Director (R&D), Indian Oil Corporation, Mr. Adarsh Soni, President, Punj Lloyd, Prof. S. K. Palhan, Director of Great Lakes IEMR and Mr. Sunil Khanna, Managing Director, Emerson Process Management India Ltd.
The finals of Talent Quest’s grand competition witnessed a clean sweep by the students of Great Lakes IEMR, Mr. Paritosh Thakur (first), Mr. Chittaranjan Dash (second) and Ms. Nidhi Gola (third), all of them being second year students. The winners were awarded cash prizes worth Rs. 25,000 (1st Prize), Rs. 15,000 (1st Runner’s up) and Rs. 10,000 (2nd Runner’s up) respectively by Emerson Process Management.
This event comes as one of the breakthrough ideas for increasing Academic and Corporate synergy. Emerson Process Management is committed to creating opportunities for young Talent in India to showcase their potential and will continue to create forums to nurture young minds and help them build global careers.

One of the esteemed jury members and President, Punj Lloyd, Mr. Adarsh Soni said, “I heard all the presentation very carefully and they were really outstanding. It was very difficult for us to select the top 3 and it was a very good contest & competition.”
